The best way for one to experience the city that birthed the Renaissance is undoubtedly to immerse oneself in Florentine culture. And what more is Florentine culture than art, architecture, food, and wine? Of the best attractions in the city, most notable are the immaculate architectural creations of Firenze. With so much to see and presumably so little time, it is imperative to find a hotel near the city’s best attractions. And what are these attractions you might ask? Our best suggestions include the Duomo, Ponte Vecchio, Accademia Gallery, Uffizi Gallery, Basilica of Santa Maria Novella, and the Pitti Palace. Depending on your personal travel preferences, there are a number of hotels in Florence to suit your needs.
For those of you who are interested in nature and the beauty of the surrounding hills of Tuscany, perhaps a modern city center hotel is not for you. Piazzale Michelangelo, one of the city’s most notable attractions, offers a wonderful panoramic view over the city of Florence. The Serristori Palace is situated just below Piazzale Michelangelo on the Arno River. Not only will you enjoy a short walk to Piazzale, but you will also enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the Arno River.
If you have a love for architecture and would rather be a bit more centrally located, we suggest a hotel in close proximity to one of Florence’s architectural masterpieces: The Duomo, the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella, or the Ponte Vecchio. There are literally hundreds of hotels to choose from in the center of Florence, but we have a few we believe to be the best. Hotel Grand Cavour in located nicely in the center of Florence just a short walk from the Duomo. We admittedly have a soft spot for rooftop bars in Florence that have incredible views, hence why the Grand Cavour is our Duomo choice hotel. Sticking with the panoramic rooftop view theme, our choice for Basilica of Santa Maria Novella is the Hotel Grand Minervawhich boasts a beautiful rooftop pool with a view of both the Basilica as well as the Florence Duomo. Our last hotel that focusses on proximity to the architecture of Florence is the Portrait Firenze which sits just feet from the beautiful Ponte Vecchio. The Portrait also is just a short 5 minute walk from the Pitti Palace.
Perhaps, however, you’re less interested in nature and architecture, and you would prefer to spend your trip to Florence exploring the museums filled with the Renaissance art of Michelangelo and Da Vinci? In this case you will be best suited in a hotel near either the Uffizi Gallery or the Accademia; or possibly somewhere in between. An important note to make as well is that Florence is vastly different from cities like Rome. Any of the above mentioned hotels would require no more than about a 2 KM walk or taxi to reach any of the main attractions of the city.
