Eight people have been arrested for the murder of 8-year-old Narin Guran in Turkey's Diyarbakir province.
Turkish media reports that the mother and brother of the minor have been arrested together with her other relatives, as suspected of having a hand in the murder.
Days after the arrest of her uncle and his accomplice, Turkish authorities seem to be getting closer to the truth.
The arrested are: Narine's mother, Yuksel; her brother, Enes; her uncle, Fuati; her cousin, Muhammad; her cousin, Birchen; her aunt, Masala; aunt's husband, Mehmeti; an employee of Selim, Mehmet.
The mother and brother of the unfortunate girl were arrested on the charge of "participation in intentional murder", while the uncle was put in handcuffs on the charge of "disappearing the evidence of a crime". The others also carry the same accusation, that of "concealment of the event and destruction of evidence".
Narine Guran's mother has described in detail the day of her disappearance. However, she seems to have encountered various contradictions as to when the events took place, which have concerned the authorities. Initially, she stated that she was suspicious of her husband.
Another detail that the Turkish media highlighted was Yuksel Güran's cold and calm attitude during the interrogation. According to the Ekoltv report, the girl's mother denied the accusations against her and answered many questions with the words "I don't know, I don't know, I haven't seen her".
Yuksel Güran was asked if he had a relationship with his daughter's uncle, Salim Güran, who was arrested as part of the murder investigation.
"There is absolutely no such thing. I am ashamed of these accusations. God damn whoever killed Narini.”
The prosecutor asked why Narin called her uncle three times after 15.15pm on August 21, when she disappeared and was last seen.
"I called him once by mistake, but I never called him again", she said, but could not give an explanation for the other two phone calls.
Unlike his wife, her husband, Arif Güran, seems to have never doubted his wife. When asked if there was a possibility that his brother and his wife had an extramarital affair, he answered flatly.
"I trust my wife. There is no such relationship. It's not because I trust Salim, but because I trust my wife."
The police suspect the mother
Turkish channels continuously broadcast live the developments related to the murder that shocked Turkey. However, they seem to insist on the dubious role of the mother, as well as on a possible secret relationship she had with the minor's uncle, hence the silence after the incident.
Why is this being suspected?
Because Narina's uncle had downloaded an app and used it to delete all the messages he had received and sent since the day the child disappeared on August 21. The mother of the murdered girl had the same application.
"Gasoline to the fire" for an extramarital relationship was thrown by the person who disappeared the body of the minor. Nevzat Bahtiyar, who was arrested after admitting to dumping Narin's dead body in the village stream, made chilling allegations in his final statement to the prosecutor's office.
"It was rumored that Salim Güran had an affair with Yüksel Güran (Narin's mother) and his uncle's wife. But I don't think anyone will testify on this matter.
My guess is that Narin saw the sexual relationship he had with one of these women. For this reason, I think he killed him. However, I have not seen anything with my own eyes.
I would also like to point out this: Uğurcan Güran was getting married on August 25. Since most of the men were out of the village to distribute the wedding invitations, only Salim was in the village. The first place that Salim Güran called me was the place that Arif Güran used as a stable.
Maybe Narin saw something there. The fact that Narina's dead body was brought to me with slippers on her feet shows that Narina was killed before entering the house."he said.
