You have probably noticed the increase in the use of electric scooters in Tirana. However, this is also increasing the concern of vehicle drivers and pedestrians themselves due to the danger that comes from them for not respecting the traffic code.
The road traffic specialist, Gerhard Baka, as he was invited today to 'Kafe Shqeto', said that unfortunately this category embarrasses those regular drivers, pedestrians who walk in their lanes, because they have the risk of was hit by scooters that, even though they are prohibited, we see them walking in the pedestrian lanes.
"In this case, the only thing we have to do is to advise and sensitize them by showing them that the rules of the road traffic should not be violated and that they should be made responsible for the rest of the people as well"- said Baka.
His statement:
"We have emphasized in article 185/188 how we should behave towards this category and where we say that we should punish a skate user who is cycling on the carriageway, while he should be cycling in the lane dedicated to bicycles, we do not we can apply the same measure to that segment where there are no bicycle lanes. So it is the lack of signage that penalizes us to punish these categories where they do not respect the traffic rules.
As against we say that we do not impose the measure if you continue the movement with a red light.
In case we punish a motor vehicle or a vehicle that continues moving, although the traffic light signal stops it, these other categories should also have the same punishment. The user of vehicles, skateboards, or bicycles should be punished in the same way, as they should be subject to the same punishment according to the provisions of the road rules.
At the moment when these provisions are missing, at first sight it seems as if the police are being negligent or inactive to take measures of this category.
In this case, the only thing we have to do is to advise them and sensitize them by showing them that the traffic rules should not be violated and that they should be responsible for the rest of the people as well. Unfortunately, we see that this category embarrasses those regular drivers, pedestrians who walk in their lanes because they have the risk of being hit by skateboards that walk there, as is the case in "Skënderbej Square" because we massively see that even though there it is forbidden, drivers of motor vehicles enter the middle of the square in order to avoid them".
