The women's 5000m athletics race provided major controversy after Kenya's Faith Kipyegon was stripped of her medal prematurely. Tall CONTEST, Kipyegon collided with Ethiopia's Gudaf Tsegay, who is known for her aggressive behavior during competitions, and on that occasion she did not allow the Kenyan to pass her.
In the end, Kipyegon finished in second place, just behind compatriot Beatrice Chebet (1:28.56) by one and four hundredths of a second behind and ahead of Dutchman Sifan Hassan.
The referees then decided to disqualify Kipyego due to the aforementioned collision, but the injustice was rectified following the Kenyan's appeal.
