Today goes down in the history of Albanian sports, as the naturalized Russian wrestler Chermen Valiev managed to bring Albania the first Olympic medal in history.
The 25-year-old defeated his rival from Tajikistan, Viktor Rassadin, 6-2 in the freestyle for the weight up to 74 kilograms, winning the bronze medal in the junior final. More than just the bronze, Valiev has won what many red and black athletes have not done for decades.
Our country already has an Olympic medal, which happened after the tenth participation in the Olympic Games.
