Today, Kosovo received the status of an associate member in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. Most of the countries have voted in favor, one vote has been against and 14 other countries have abstained, in the meeting of the Assembly that was held in Sofia, Bulgaria.
The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, considers the approval of the recommendation for advancing the status of Kosovo from an observer member to an associate member in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly as an important step towards Euro-Atlantic integration.
"On the eve of the 25th anniversary of liberation, Sofia, the capital of the state that 25 years ago opened its airspace for NATO planes in the campaign against Serbia, today was the meeting place where we took an important step in the Euro integration -Atlantic, despite Serbia's campaign"- Kurti wrote on his social networks
President Vjosa Osmani expressed her happiness with the decision taken by the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, saying that Kosovo's destiny is NATO.
"We will continue our efforts together with our allies to advance our path towards NATO membership", Osmani said.
With this decision, Kosovo is only one step away from full membership in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, which will certainly affect the stability of the Balkans. The decision was also welcomed by the opposition political parties, saying that Kosovo has a place in NATO.
